Introducing the How-to-Blog Webinar Series; Webinar #1 This Friday

by Jerod Morris on August 11, 2010

This entry is part 1 of 1 in the series How to Blog Webinar Series

As you know, our primary goal with How-to-Blog.TV is to teach you everything we know about blogging.

Personally, one of my frustrations with the site since we launched it is that I have not been able to participate as much as I would like to. The reason is that I spend so much of my day blogging on various sites that I often do not have extra time left over to talk about blogging; and this frustrates me because I really do enjoy sharing what I’ve learned and helping to empower others to improve their blogs.

Also, I’ll be honest, procrastination is among my greatest strengths, and unless I give myself a hard deadline to do something I tend to put it off until it becomes essential. But I can tell tell you about later.

The point here is that, as the title of this post explicates, we are introducing a new feature here at H2B that I am quarterbacking; and I am really excited about it. The new feature is the How-to-Blog Webinar Series, and the official launch will occur this Friday at 4:00 CT when I host our first webinar.

blog-readersIf you are reading this post, then you are most cordially invited to attend.

Right now, my gameplan is to host a webinar every other Friday around that same time. We will also be recording the webinars and posting the videos here on the site in case you cannot attend live.

For anyone has never attended a webinar (also known as web seminar), the benefits are plentiful:

  • You get to view my screen as I take you step-by-step through processes that can sometimes be difficult or cumbersome to explain in words and screenshots.
  • You get to listen to me explain steps and concepts using my soothing baritone, which has been described as an “irresistible cross between Barry White and James Earl Jones.”
  • You have the ability to interact by asking questions that I can respond to immediately.

And there are many others. Also, we have partnered with WebEx (by Cisco) to be the host for our webinars, and there simply is not a better provider out there. (I know; I had to research them before the OC overlords would okay the investment.)

As for topics, my current gameplan is to go step-by-step through the blogging process. Case in point: Friday’s first webinar will be about the initial steps you need to take once you have WordPress installed. These steps include:

  • Setting up permalinks
  • Ensuring search engines can find your blog
  • Defining your website address
  • Installing Google Analytics
  • Installing necessary plugins that every blog needs

And much, much more. We will go over these in detail, with you being able to watch me every step of the way.

Now, you may be wondering why you should attend the webinar if this is all review for you. There are a couple of good reasons.

First off, unless you are a really experienced blogger, I bet there are some things you overlooked when you set up your blog. Why not find out for sure?

Second, even if you already know everything I’m planning to cover, I’ll reserve the final 15-20 minutes to take questions about anything and everything you’re curious about. Unfortunately, this guy forces me to bill for my time during normal work hours. This is your time to ask me that burning question you haven’t been able to solve…for free!

So go to our official WebEx page, how-to-blog.webex.com, and reserve your spot for Friday’s webinar. We can only hold a maximum of 100 at a time, so make sure you don’t procrastinate (like I probably would) and miss out.
